Hi & Brake Line fitting
Hi, I have been a lurker on this forum for a long time, mainly for peoples experiences as I'm building a different kit car but wanted peoples
advice on brake lines.
I have read the IVA manual and it advises they should be securely attached as well as not fowling the body work seems to be the other train of
thought.
Would the below be ok, its not fowling the body work but would be touching a coolant pipe. It is securely attached just behind the coolant pipe as
well as in the forefront of the picture.

Not ok. You have a long unsupported span, and it looks like the coolant pipes will chafe on the copper brake brake pipes which an IVA inspector would
not be happy with.
Couldn't the pipe pass through the bulkhead in a hole drilled above the coolant pipes, using a grommet of course, and then run down the inside?

Thanks for the quick reply, the unsupported bit I wasn't worried by as I need to fabricate some brackets. It was the rubbing that was my
concern.
As for your suggestion, I like it, the 2 pipes will briefly enter the cabin but can drop straight back down into the tunnel ducting behind the coolant
pipes which is what is needed.

Another question, can brake lines run through the passanger compartment, it may get me around the tight tunnel space.

Yes as long as they are secure and can't be damaged by anything else. eg seat runners.

Run them inside some silicon vacuum hose, or rubber fuel hose to protect them maybe?

thanks both of you for the replies, being able to run them through the cabin solves the issue easily for me. I can take then through the bulk head and
run them on top of the tunnel (raised compared to seats etc..., keeping the tunnel for the coolant pipes! and will also be covered by part of the
centre console when complete so wont be seen either.

My advice is to clip them around 250mm centres. Same for the loom.
The IVA man likes to see safety critical things over done. If you get the basics right the rest will be easier to deal with.
I think you will have enough head scratchers later on so best to get these things right now.
Have you got the glass and lights sorted?

I agree, when trying to get the brake pipes down into the tunnel it just didn't feel right! The new approach will allow me to clip at the
distances you say.
Lights all E marked, checked that so rears won't be a problem as ill mount to pass the test.
Front, again e marked, I think they will be for left hand drive, however CBS do the exact ones used so swapping won't be an issue. I've
bought some indicator stalks for the indicators to ensure I can mount in a manner to meet angles.
Windscreen - I've got a contact who will come and collect it and make a mould so I can produce e marked screens. So all those bits been fine so
far.

Sounds good.
How about the side windows? Have you found out if you can test without them fitted?

I'm probably just going to get some made up in the end, on the scale of the project cost it will be a low amount. However I was reading the
GT40 and they definitely had some go through without side windows but for the hassle isn't worth it.
Im sure ill have enough tasks after the first test to keep me busy for the retake...be a shame to have an additional one
