great day today with ian dayson setting up the radical
had the set up by ian dayson today. hes a great guy,and for those who dont know,he owns force racing cars,and builds various models of force single
seater sprint/hillclimb cars. hes one of the best around (if not the best) at setting up sprint/hillclimb cars.
anyway the car weighed in at 418 kgs wet with no top body section and 502 kgs with me on board! (must lose a few pounds)
really enjoyed the day and picking his brains on damper settings on the double adjustables and whats happening to the car/suspension at certain
times,and in certain conditions.geometry all done and now ready to go!

he works from home in his workshop. nice place too!
although weve not had the car out yet we have done a few tests with damper settings and got the rebound close to where it needs to be.a bit of fine
tuning with settings should see it spot on.
the weight was good but id imagine theres 30kgs of bodywork to go on top,but still light. id say no more than 450kgs wet with all bodywork on.

Interesting, what shocks are you using, ive been using protechs for ages on various lightweight cars and got on well with them, but there's the
likes of GAZ which seem to have a good name? nitrons after a lottery win (even if that wins a tenner!!) what are your thoughts? what sort of spring
rates are you going with .

im on the double adjustable protecs,which are valved for the car in matched pairs.
front anti roll bar fitted but rear removed.spring rates un altered from previous owner.
the forces he builds run the penske dampers with a monoshock front

The Penske are serious kit!
It would be good to hear how you find it on the track, hopefully it will convince me to stay with Protechs for the BE caterham build thats incoming.

if you can pop up to blyton on 28/03/14 ill be there testing the setup.
slightly different setup on mine as im on avon radials with supersoft slicks A92 on hills and a15 sprints.
i set the rear compression damping to squat down under hard acceleration and the rebound just enough to hold it down so the tyres keep biting. but
hopefully enough so i have good weight transfer under braking.
if you want my settings ill send them to you as the cars will be similar in weight.(yours may be lighter)cheers
i think some of the top L7C guys.(simon rogers,darren luke) are running the 3 way nitrons from meteor motorsport but they are expensive! very

That would be good, and i would have done but probably offshore then, if not ill pop down definately.
I suppose it depends on how your individual driving style goes, wether your a late braker or a off throttle engine braker, then i suppose it depends
what your using engine wise and flywheel/ inertia figures with regards to front or rear settings.....testing is essential.
I spoke to Simon R about the nitrons but, it seems the more intricate the damper adjustment the more input you need, hence the guys at the front know
everything about them which i suppose is a learning curve but i deemed it not critical for the stage im at, at the moment.
Good to see your getting into it at a decent level, keep up the enthusiasm

it seems with the sprinters if your not on either the throttle or brake pedal at all times your losing time!
the advantage is the tyres are so soft,yo can brake late,turn in and load up the outside front and within reason it should grip! the a92 avons are so
soft you can dig your thumb nail into them. ill ping me settings over to you now.
