steering extension ok for iva ?????
is this ok for the road
the small shaft from the escort steering is 13mm but the sierras is 16mm so I made an adapter wielded it to the front half of the escort and bolted it
as well then it slots in to the sierra end this joint is so tight you have to put it in a vice to to separate even before its bolted but should
I wield this to just to be safe is there any reason I carnt do it like this
so wield the two pieces in the last pic or not ??????

Yes as there's no splines and flat for the bolt.

A definite fail.
I believe that when a tester finds something such as this they then look twice as hard at the rest of the car.
I know I would.

Fail
Get the correct UJ and extend the long tube, while you are about this add a diagonal on the rack mountings so it cannot slew to one side when under
load.

In my haynes roadster which has sierra column with escort rack, i just extended the standard sierra steering shaft, teh splines fitted fine.
Think rally design may have various ford joints and splines etc.

I have had the same experience. I had to extend the shaft but had no problems with the splines matching up

I'll take some pics for you mate but mine is sierra already but we extended it and did a nice job which wasn't even looked at when I did
IVA. As already mentioned, it's one of those area that if Mr iva isn't happy then he's likely to go through everything with a fine
tooth comb.
