Mid engined mini
Hi all, I have been building a blackbird powered mini for too long now and am currently trying to sort out brakes. The car is running Sierra xr 4x4
hubs and shafts and the front is sorted ok but having problems at the back. I want to use a mechanical handbrake caliper and have tried saxo ones but
think will have to remove too much material. Have any of you guys used ford or ford fitting discs at the rear with 13 inch wheels?

Wasnt too keen on spending £200 a pop on thier combination caliper to be honest. Very nice and easy probably but spent too much already and would like
to use or adapt something existing and cheaper if possible.

I have Ford Sierra handbrake calipers on mine, under 13" wheels. They came from RD, and the shortened springs came from RJK350 on here.
Not sure what setup you have on yours though ??

Under the Locostbuilders logo top left of this page, just under it is photo archive, click on it
then go bottom right of that page & choose file

Sorry didnt click the link first time round . The mini is the same as yours- trailing arm with cut away tube and what looks like the same hubs. Was it
just the spring that caused the clearance issue?

13" wheels with Sierra 4x4 rear end on mine, minilites fit with a short spring, minilite copies have more room, you just need to pick your
wheels.
Minilites look the best on classic mini's anyway

Is that the cosworth cal001 unit on rally design? I take it the shortened spring is a diy job- cant buy them off the shelf.

My calipers are the same as these, using solid rear discs.

With the shortened springs, ie 2 coils instead of 3 they fit under my Compotive CXRs absolutely fine. I havent started looking at a cable yet, but Im
under the impression you can shorten a stock Sierra one, or even easier buy a bespoke item from Speedycables.

I have an MK Indy running ford sierra calipers on the back with 13 inch Team Dynamic Wheels.
I have just had to bend down the hand brake lever slightly and I have had some hand brake springs made with 1 coil less that fits within the wheel.
I have some spare springs if you go this way.

Cheers lads, I'll order a pair of calipers from RD. I'd also like a pair of springs too - how do I go about paying you?
Almost forgot, what's the correct disc for these under 13s?
