Modifying sierra steering shaft (help)

A new supercharger needs space!

I need to modify my existing sierra steering shaft to put another 'bend' in it.

My plan is to cut the exiting shaft at the top, put on new UJ and extend with bar/tube.

Other than find an old sierra shaft (rocking horse...) has anyone used any other tube or UJs brand new or from other donors and joined them together?

Advice or experience welcome!

Can't recall for sure, but isn't one part of column triangular to prevent it slipping in the UJ?

ETA...Just Googled it and noticed one side is triangular, the other appears to be round and splined.

I've always used 3/4 od, 14swg CDS tube (from Ringwood precision) and splined shaft /UJs from Rally Design.
