Alternatives to the sierra differential?
Probably one for the BEC boys, but has anyone found an alternative to the sierra 3.14 differential? Not only is it hard to find but they are
expensive when you can find them, so I wondered if anyone had found an alternative option? Its quite possible that it wont be cost effective by the
time new half shafts are put into the equation but I just thought I'd put the question to the forum.

I seem to recall Land Rover Freelander diff's are used in some BEC - maybe Westfields???

Freelander diff is 3.21:1, quite light and a quaife ATB is available.
I think there is some commonality with Sierra push fit shafts as well. Either the spline or the lobro is the same size so some parts can be adapted. I
cant remember all of the details on this though.

Subaru diff was on the Raw option list at some point. No idea of details though.

Cheers all. From my understanding the freelander diff doesnt like being used in high bhp setups? So thats probably no good to me. Subaru diffs I
thought were all 4.xx:1

I was going to say BMW, pick a diesel car and they go into the 2:X ratio with something like a X5 with big wheels and options for LSD

I was going to put a BMW 530d one in Deimos if I'd kept it and that was a 2.28:1 iirc. Would have made it so much more relaxed to drive with 70
at something like 1800rpm 
Heavier than Sierra but far lighter than Jaguar

is an option, but an expensive option.
at least you don't then require a reversing box or electric reversing system and a more straight forward tail shaft

Huge choice in bm diffs from the diesel cars but the lsd is pricey and only available from quaife through a bm specialist down south . Loads of them
on the bay for £70-80

I'd have thought BMW or Mercedes give a fairly wide choice. Both make petrol, diesel and indeed 4x4s so there should also be a range of ratios
too.
