STEERING RACK????
hi all, can anyone tell me why it has to be a mk2 escort steering rack? is it for the mounting method or the rod ends fitting sierra uprights?, only
there are not too many of them about these days.

Doesn't HAVE to be a Mk2 rack.. most people now use shortened sierra racks.
I'm sure loads of people will reply about the sierra rack, cos i used a mk2 escort rack

So thats the main reason then is it, i picked up a steering shaft link off a standard sierra yesterday from a breaker and had to remove it off a
steering rack, which was labelled 'siera/P100', it wasnt a power steer rack, would it be suitable, and is it easy to shorten them then?

non-power steering rack is the one to go for. Then maybe even replace the internals with a quick rack.

In adition to above good info Mk1 Escort rack is no good unless you fit the track rods from a Mk3+ Cortina or perhaps MK1/2 Fiesta

There are loads of Escort Mk2 racks about, not in breakers maybe but they are easily available recon and quickracks are dead easy to get but not
cheap.
