Replacment Sierra rear calipers / 13" wheel
Hi,
Does anyone know of a replacement caliper that will bolt onto a sierra rear hub and fit under a 13" wheel. Handbrake not important....
Cheers, James

I've got sierra rear calipers and handbrake under 13" wheels with no modifications to the caliper.

I thought the Golf ones were the same as the Rally Design Hydra ones and require a minimum 14" wheel?

Interesting.... I must admit I've not looked at them since I've seen a pic of the Golf ones, but they were supposed to be Golf ones when I
purchased the car.....
Irrespective of that, Westfield fit the Golf ones and they do fit under 13" rims.

Presumably if they didn't quite fit I could dispense with the handbrake and grind down the fins slightly?

I was hoping not to spend that much money but its looking like my only choice!
Rally Design have said the Golf/Hydra-Mech calipers dont bolt up in place of sierra calipers.... anyone know if thats the case?

The bolt location is in a different place, so no you can't bolt the Golf type to the standard sierra hub.
Why not use the Sierra caliper? The golf alloy caliper assembly is about a pound lighter per side and requires much more room because of the fins.
What exactly are you trying to achieve?
The sierra caliper is the most compact I have seen, if the sierra is catching the Hi-Spec type will foul
I have standard Sierra disk braked hub, standard dics and calipers, all under a 13" KN Minator alloy on my mini

I've succesfully fitted 13inch alloys over sierra calipers. The westfield solution uses a ford escort front disk at the rear. This has a number
of different dimensions to the sierra disk, from memory moving the caliper towards the diff by 15mm or so, which obviously requires modifications to
the mounting setup.
Chris, is the Hi-Spec offering the one that uses residual brake pressure to operate?

Just trying to sort out which calipers and discs to use on my car. I had previously tried standard sierra calipers with a different 13" wheel
and it didn't fit. I guess I should find some and try with my current wheels.

Right - I don't yet know if my set-up actually fits but I fugging hope it does... I may get the chance to find out tonight if Lenny's
available and will take a wheel off..
Anyhoo, I have Mark 1 Fiesta front calipers which have lugs that match the Sierra. The offset is different so they need some spacers making up. If
my calculations are right (no guarantee) they'll fit under my 6x13 ET16 Minators.
I'll let you know.

They fit under *some* 13" rims... Folk have tried certain makes or rim, and they dont fit. It must also be borne in mind that Westfield use the
Escort disc with these calipers too, which is a smaller diameter to the Sierra disc.
DO NOT grind away the fins to fit. Not only do the fins help disapate heat, but they are also very important to the strength across the jaw of the
caliper...
Dont just build it.....make it!

They should fit, some mini guys are using mk1 fiesta front calipers under 10" wheels (much cheaper than mini cooper calipers).

A bit of an update...
My wheels foul on the handbrake mechanism on the Sierra caliper (tried one on an Indy last night.) However, I'm confident that they'll go
over the Fiesta calipers.
Will find out on the weekend when I get my bearing carriers back.
