Horizontal IRS drive shafts?

I assembled my IRS back end yesterday.

One thing I've noticed is that with the wishbones parallel (and horizontal) the drive shafts are not horizontal.
It appears that I've mounted the diff 1-2" too high but this going to be quite a lot of work to change.

My aim was that with the car at proper weight and at rest they'd all be inline (as I believe this is preferable).

So, the question is, how much of a problem is it if the shafts aren't in line with the wishbones?

Thanks,

James

I can't see it being a big problem, the sideways play in the driveshafts should be enough to cope. I'd check the full range of movement given by your shocks anyway just to be safe.

I was going to mount my diff a little higher anyway so that the drive shafts were horizontal with the rear end squatting a little under full power!

I agree with GO. The closer you can get the drive shafts to horizontal while under power, the less chance there is of fracturing the CV cages. That's the theory anyway, but in practice, your Pinto isn't likely to blow the Sierra/Grandad CV cages apart.
Disconnect your rear shocks, and as long as you can fully cycle your suspension without the shafts running out of travel, all will be well.

I've had a look at a picture of an MKIndy and they appear to also 'droop' downwards.
Can an MKIndy owner confirm this for me please?

Thanks,

James

James.

why not look under a sierra and or a granada? see what they are usally like.

Im reasonably confident that on the pics in the haynes book from under the car that regardless of being horizontal, that they slope backwards a bit....
