Steering rack issues

I have just started my project based on the Mcsorley 442 design, however i have now have a bit of a dilemma. This uses the standard width front end, and therefor a escort or shortened sierra rack. After reading the posts from dunc about shorting racks, it would seem that the sierra rack is shortend by about 4.5". Does this mean that if i use the +4 plans i will not need to get my sierra rack shortend as i can mount the suspension 0.25" further out to suit? I am at stage when i can change over, so any ideas would be helpful. I am trying to keep this as cheap as posibble, and as i dont have access to a lathe, the less amount of machine work the better.
