Bushes
My second question today...! 
What bushes have people used for front wishbones? In the book it mentions a Triumph Herald but there is more than one bush on a car!
Other complication is that the ends of my wishbones are 40mm wide, rather than 36mm in the book so I'd need wider bushes anyway.
Any ideas please??

have you got accsses to a lathe ? if so make your own, will get spec of material from work for you, i had to pay for it, total cost £7, and in green
to, match's the car, i could have had other colours though, let me know if you want material name / spec, will get it for you.

The bushes in the book are Herald/Spitfire front wishbone bushes.

Chris - how wide are they? Will they be ok in my 40mm tubes?
Jon - I don't have a lathe myself but if all else fails...! Any chance you can cut them? Drink in it for you!

ok boys, will be back in shop wednesday, will get spec and post it on here, i have now covered 500 miles with no problems, was a bit nervous at 1st,
kept junping out and checking, but they aint moved a thou, infact other than one broken front cycle wing stay, (which i realise i made to lightweight
anyway) nothing as fell off at all, it takes a while to get confidence in the car but its coming....

Rite here is the info.........
the material is called "Oilon"
it can be supplied in loads a coulours, i had green, it comes in any Dia from 10mm to 100mm,
i used 25mm and turned it down in a lathe, the cost as gone up though, 25mm Dia is now a massive £10 per metre, and can be had from ......
Direct Plastics.....01142 560889. makes you wonder how much "pro flex" are makin dunnit ?

This might just provide the excuse I've been looking for to buy a lathe. My excuse for buying a plasma cutter was that Machine Mart had an ex-demo
one for a couple of hundred off, too good to miss.

found this info on the oilon material usod in the bushes 25 TIMES STRONGER THAN PHOSPHER BRONZE BUSHS!!!! that should do the trick

I had a look at the web site mentioned. It said the Oilon material was self lubrication and 25 times more wear resistant than phosphor bronze. What I
doon't see is how that makes it more suitable as suspension bush material. The stuff isn't supposed to slide around, it's supposed to deflect in a
controlled manner.

i think the £10 / Mtr makes it suitable, plus the fact that its up to the job, the self lube bit does help when your pressing them in, allso helps
when your turning them on the lathe, nothing cast in stone here, just shareing info......

im currently restoring a '67 GT6 which has the same wishbones as a herald, i will measure the wishbone eyes and post the dimensions tomorrow.

How much longer r u guys making the "metal bit in the middle" than the plastic bush ? (I assume u make it longer other wise the bush gets nipped
up)+ wot lube do u use to stop it squeaking?
