Need donor source for front uprights (USA)

Hi,

Still in the research stages at this point. Looking for a suitable donor for front uprights/spindles/hubs that will work with a front wheel drive offset wheel. I will be doing a standard locost style frame but with a front wheel drivetrain in mid-engine configuration. I suppose I could use a regular pinto/mustangII/Chevy S-10 upright with a spacer, but that is so uncool...

Any ideas?

Thanks, Steve G

Steve,

Keep watching my site. I'll soon have my front end built using the MR2 (ex strut)uprights with adapter and spec racer upper ball joint. Maybe not what you want but suits the FWD offsets.

Hi Alan!

ooooh ooooh, what ball-joint are you ending up with? Can you give me a part number? I have been meaning to tell you that I really like your solution for the front suspension. I've been trying to come up with innovative ways of lowering the cg with pullrods and bell cranks and placing the shocks horizontaly at the base of the frame and it just gets so damn complicated. I'm wondering if you will want to share your drawings in a detailed fashion at some point... ahem... Since they are so darn cool and all...

Steve,

Yeah, no problem sharing stuff!
Let me see if it works first The ball joint part number is MOOG K3082 or TRW 10229 or equivalent. I got one as a sample for about $17 but I have been quoted $15 (but they weren't in stock)This is the one that is shown in my "how the spec racers do it" picture on my site. The adapter is really simple and could easily "adapt" to other similar uprights.

Can you give more info as to your Donor? That's a Corolla GTS? What year?

wow, this is an old thread, but I had a question which is sort of on-topic here, so...

Did anyone try using Pontiac Fiero uprights and hubs for a seven-ish car?
