Tyre Advice

I read with interest about the rather nice alloys from gts! looks like a pretty tidy buy(or am I showing my ignorance??,please tell me!!) but where should I get tyres from?
I was wondering about peoples experience obtaining tyres.

Any advice would be appreciated, I'm sure there are others who would also benefit from the forums experience in this area.

Many thanks

p.s.
build officially under way, mig welder for christmas, tube on its way! grp panels ready to go!

I will admit my overall car knowledge is sketchy, but I'm learning all the time. Mostly from this forum keep up the good work everyone!!

Hi Liam,

The alloys are in short supply, there is only one set left and several people fancy them but are blaming christmas for not getting the yet.

Tyres can be bought and fitted at any Kwik Fit etc. Buy any branded tyre and i doubt you'll go too far wrong, if you fancy something sexy get something with a low profile.

Kind regards,
Darren

tyres

Do you think you will get any more in the future? As I know others would be interested?

Thanks for the advice, I suppose what I was asking and didn't say was is it ok to buy tyres from the local tyre place(kwik fit etc) or do people use online sources. If so do they save any money?

I did some phoning round before I found a place that had the tyres I wanted (Yokos) at a price I wanted to pay.

I always find with KwikFit that the prices got bigger when you get there - tyres always at the cheap advertised price (couldn't do anything different!), but then you get "new valves sir? that's another £5. Balancing? That's another few Pounds, sir." Then when they get at the car they say "Did you know that your ..... is damaged/worn/needs replacing, would you like us to fix it?", and so on. Then you get phone calls for the next 6 months, asking if you'd like their 'special insurance deals'.

In the end, even a little local dealer could easily match their price, and I saved £10 a wheel by driving 15 miles out of town - not even a little back-street dealer, but one of the biggest Land Rover dealers in Suffolk!

So, the answer is "shop around".

cheers,

David

i get good part worn tyres, £15 each, sometimes even good makes. Got some 15" Michellins with about 6mm left yesterday, again £15.

i could never bring myself to pay full bat for new tyres.

tyres

I have a local tyre/exhaust/brake place, whose owner is a friend of my father. By the sounds of things it would seem a good idea to have a word!

The wheels are nice and if your quick there is still a set here. They are cheap because i heard that my wholesalers wanted to clear them out and stop doing wheels so i jumped in and bought them all for silly money. As i am drained by the cost of launching the kit i sold them off cheap to get the money back in fast.

Doubt i will get anymore 14" but have asked for another style and some 15" so i'll see what happens.

It's also worth mentioning that there won't be any old tyres - tyre dealers have to pay to dispose of them, and you might get a bit extra for walking in with 'empty wheels'!
