I bought a pair of "fashion" trainers from Next a couple of weeks, ago. look fine with normal clothes, and are very narrow and thin
sole..(very race shoe in design)

has anyone ever tried "Vans", or would you reckon the soles are too thick.

I use cheapo Lonsdale's too: -
Cost about 15 quid from one of those big sports outlets. Work fine for my size 11 plates in my MK Indy. Nice thin sole too so you can feel the
pedals.
