Carson top ?

At least I think thats what its called ? I saw one on a `custom car` at the Exeter show , its a hard-top that looks like a hood .
I am happy with the shape of my Fury hood , but it occurred to me that if it were a proper roof it would be warmer and drier (without the droughts and leaks....) - any one got any ideas how to make a mold off a hood ?

could you post a sketch of what you are wanting to make?

I design GRP products for the chemical industry and I should be able to offer some input with this...

Thanks,

Dan

What I'm thinking of is a fibreglass `replica` of the canvas hood - finished with black vinyl so from a distance it will look like.......a hood
I spend a lot of my time at work designing/making various fibreglass bit's , but I tend to make MDF plug's as most of my stuff has a lot of flat surface's..............

Ah, ok, so if you have made other grp stuff before this shouldn't be too difficult.

I would make a female frame using 1/2 ply spaced reasonably close say 300mm - 340mm to match the contours of the hood.

This could then be lined with flexi-ply and painted with polyester resin to make it rigid.

This should give you a basic shape and you can finish this with body filler and spray filler before a flatting with 150 and 200 grit paper and priming.

After a wet flat you should have a really good finish ready for waxing and laying matting into.

Do you have a compressor and spraying equipment?

Isn't there a Fury Hard top that you could just cover with vinyl rather than paint?
