Flexy hose to caliper joint?

Hi all,

I have some braided hoses as supplied by MK sports cars. Do I need a (domed) shaped (dowty?) copper washer to fit on the end of the the hose fitting and caliper (i.e so the seal is Steel caliper - copper - Steel hose fitting, with the domed copper washer inside the caliper body)?

Or can I just go Steel caliper - Steel hose fitting? I think this is how the donner was?

Dab

You've just asked the same question as me and you've already answered mine below! My answer now would be that the front calipers have a slight circular recess around the hole for the brake hose. I went to the brake shop and asked if he had any copper washers for this and he came up with them. They fit this recess perfectly so I would say yes, use them.
The standard Sierra pipes didn't have them I don't think but I think that the hoses had a convex end so that it mated face - to - face with the concave thread in the caliper.

Not quite (I think); Need to put this more clearly is the correct way:

1) Convex Steel Hose - shaped copper washer inside caliper (i.e down hole) - Concave caliper body.

Or

2) Convex Steel Hose fitting - Concave Caliper body..

i.e. not on the out side of the caliper, I think this machined surface is for a bango type hose fitting, and then you use a flat copper washer?

Ah I see. You're wanting to put something down the hole first and seal against that. I'd have to say no as you risk blocking the actual brake channel/hole itself. Plus the copper might splinter/shave as you screw the hose against it leaving the filings floating around.

Yep, that why I ask, as steel/steel joint seems a bad idea, in my mind I think I have seen a shaped washer that is designed to go down the hole.. But my mind might be playing tricks on me!

O.k they do exist, called a conical seal.. Bit I think you only need one if the matting surfaces are damaged?

All the bleed nipples are tapered steel on steel round the car. Pretty sure the flexi to caliper joint is designed the same.

Hi Dusty have to agree.. Just going to fit the flexy directly not going to worry about it unless I have a leak latter.

Cheers

I've just done this this morning and I checked an hour ago and I've no leaks.
