Replacing steering Ujs?
The steering UJ on my TVR has quite alot of axial play in it... its not pretty! I think its off a triumph TR6....
Is it possible to replace the bearings, or am I going to have to replace the entire UJ assembly?
THe assembly is nearly £25...which is a lot for a uj!
Any suppliers of bearings for Ujs?

As they used to say to me when I questioned the price of parts. MOTOR RACING IS EXPENSIVE! HOW FAST DO YOU WANT TO GO?

I don't think the parts are available to do this and most I've looked at were not serviceable. Tbh £25 seems not all that bad really and
seems cheaper than it failing and you crashing into a wall etc...If you are that bothered about maintenance costs perhaps you should have bought a
mini rather than a TVR

lol. Well it's not very well known that underneath the skin of early TVRs nearly all the parts are Triumph, Ford or BMC...
Therefore making them easier to live with. It's the later models you need to surrender your credit card for...

A mini would be more costly to run.... what with all that rust etc.... 
Seabass.... Do you happen to know, the lower UJ fitted to the steering rack is deffiantely standard TR6.... But... Is the middle UJ just below the
brake master cylinder also the same UJ or some bizzare variation?

Check your parts on tvrvixen.org there might be an alternative as some bearings used on Triumph were also used
on Marina and others. There are part lists and suppliers but I don't know how current they are.

Steering UJs are not rebuildable. £25 is about right for a steering UJ.
However they don't usually develop axial play, the normal failure mode is that they seize up. -
Axial play in the steering columm usually indicates the pinch bolts clamping the splines on the uj aren't squeezing hard enough, they
are either slack or more likely coil bound , try replacing the bolts with set screws.
