leccy reverse

hi all im just trying to find out what sort of thing people have done for reverse.
I know people have used a starter moter on some sort of slide action to engage a cog in between the diff and prop.
But first question what cog have you used for this and how have you fixed it to the diff.
also what starter moter have people used

I use the Toyota MR2 Mk1 starter as it comes "free" with the donor vehicle, I also use the Toyota diff, same reason. I have a machine shop cut a gear for the starter pinion to mesh correctly with.

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/furoreproducts/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1

one thing ive just thought looking at that does the cog have to be balanced or anything or will it not be spinning that fast on the front part of the diff i dont want it flying off or explodeing much like a unbalanced flywheel can

looks like a good setup you have there does it work well ??

It's only ever spinning at around 1/3rd drive gear rpm which is already reduced on bike gearboxes by a factor of around 1.5 & it's very light being alloy - I've certainly never heard of a bike sprocket causing a problem by being out of balance & rotational speeds would be very similar.
The system has only had bench testing so far as the first of the bike engined Furores has yet to hit the road (unless you count my original twin engined one, but that didn't have reverse) from what I've seen so far have no reason to expect it to cause problems, but it's only intended to pass IVA & to get you out of an awkward situation - I wouldn't be going autotesting with it!
