Vented Discs

Anyone running vented discs!!

I have just bought some vented discs from Rally Design, www.raldes.com, very nice people. They recommended capri vented front discs so that is what I got.

One thought, when fitting them I noticed that,

a: They were rubbing against my AP Racing calipers.

b: They seem awfully close to the uprights.

Problem a was solved with a qick ring of Andy at rally design (Their brake speciallist), he said that it was a common problem and he sent me some calliper spacers. He also said that the discs are generally very close to the upright.

But I do not think that there should only be a 1mm (roughly) between them. Could anyone help me.

Adam

P.S. Rally design make very high quality goods,

and, no, I am not their sales manager. Rescued attachment hub2.jpg

had same problems here when using their standard M16 spacer kit in order to let me use vented disks.

They sent me the spacers for the caliper bolts in the kit, which may i add were not the right size and didnt allow the calliper bolts to pass through it.

The disk is VERY close to the upright, i just took a small amount off with the grinder for peace of mind. Ran them all last summer and had no problems at all.

this is what i'm doing, with spacer kit in standard m16 caliper. can't see the clearance being a problem, unless you have knackered wheel bearing..?!

one a slightly different note, my mate had a car with odd alloy wheels, and you couldnt see any clearance between the writing on the caliper and the wheel spokes. He never had a problem anyway, if it did touch it probably wore off.

You need room for expansion!
Any spirited driving or a track session could see the disk binding if there is not enough clearance, as the disks can expand quite a bit when they start to get hot.

I would have thought that only having 1mm clearance was asking for problems!
Not only will the lack of clearance cause a problem with binding, but it will also reduce the ability for heat to be transfered to the air. Not a problem if you drive like a granny, but I doubt you will be doing that in your car!
