quick question on live axles
hi peeps. Just wondering if the oil is free to slosh from end to end or if its held by the diff somehow?
Cheers!

oil its held inside the axle by bearings as far as I could tell.
But they are at the hub ends, so I think it can slosh freely. Thats what I found anyway, but best wait for someone clever.

Oils eals on the outside of the wheel bearings, oil can slosh back and forth to its
hearts content and keep those shiny bearings healthy.

so if you drove round and round in a circle then the inner bearing and diff would eventually fail?

Not quite - the wheel bearings themselves are sealed , and there are baffle plates either side of the diff .

i am sure you would have to stop because you felt sick before the diff wears out

Most diff oils are fairly viscous and don't slosh about much!

Some Escort Hot Rod racers used to use an external Jabasco electric bilge pump to deposit the oil back over the pinion.

Yep, UR right. Threre is a baffle in each tube, just outboard from the banjo casing.
