Limited Slip ratio

My post last night didn't work so let's try again!

I have a LSD from a Sierra 4x4, however when cleaning it I managed to 'loose' the metal tag that tells you the ratio. Is there another way of finding out the ratio? Preferably from the outside of the casing, but if not maybe a part number on the internals?

Any help much appreciated

If tis from a Sierra 4x4 then it is probably 3.62:1

The ratios and their tag numbers are here:

85GG 4006 DC --- 3.97
85GG 4006 BC --- 3.62
85GG 4006 AC --- 3.38
85GG 4006 FB --- 3.36
87BG 4006 GB --- 3.14

86GG 4006 AAA --- 3.92 LSD
V87BB 4006 BAA --- 3.62 LSD
V87BG 4006 CAA --- 3.38 LSD
85GG 4006 AAA --- 3.36 LSD

Vin plate codes for Diff ratio

Ratio Code
3.14 M
3.36 A
3.38 U
3.62 V
3.64 3
3.92 D

If you still have sight of the VIN plate, you might be able to tell that way.

MOST of them were 3.62.

The other way to tell is to turn the input flange and ACCURATELY (the ratios aren't miles apart in this case) measure how far the output flanges turn. The input flange will do 3.62 revs for every 1 of the output's.

I'm sure ed's numbers above do exist or may have been options, but I've only ever come across 3.62, 3.92 for sale in these circles, though that might be because they're the best suited ratios!?

3.62 is the norm imho.

A quick and easy way to check the ratio is to turn the input (diff nose) and measure the revolutions to turn the output shafts 1 revolution. ie 3.62 or 3.92. I suggest a blob of tippex or similar and start the count at 12 oclock IYSWIM.

The 3.62 is off the v6 xr4x4, a 3.92 is of the 2.0 xr4x4.

If non lsd secure one of the output shafts and the input will be half the ratio (i.e 1.81 turns).

It's a 3.62!!

Thank you all for your help. I now believe it to be a 3.62 ratio. Did the thing with the tipex and it looks about right.

Now I know what it is I can sell it!!
