Steering Stuff
I have a Sierra wheel/column, Escort Mk2 rack and couplings. I have seen a couple of types of steering downlinks for the Sierra, but would like to
know what the general opinion is on how to connect from the column (triangle) to the couplings at the rack (splined), and where I can get a
'locost' solution .
The column BTW is the one with the up-down adjustment.

It looks like the Midget is winning at the moment......

I made up a custom steering column using the original Sierra downlink (from the triangle to the rack) but with the end chopped off and a group 4
universal joint welded in along with another length of splined shaft and another universal joint linking to the rack. I needed the extra universal
joint in order to route my steering link around my exhaust manifold.
You can buy the various splined shafts and couplings from Rally Design although they are not cheap. Something like £19.50 for a splined shaft and £16
or so for each coupling. You can alter lengths of the shaft by cutting and using tight fitting tubing which is then welded over the ends of the
shafts. Whatever you do, make sure this is welded soundly!
I hope this helps,
Craig.
