Shocks - position and bumpstops

Folks,

I've got AVO Westfield front and rear shocks. Now the rear shocks have a rubber bump stop that is approx. 25mm long. The front shocks have two bump stops, one 25mm one 22mm long.

Do i really need nearly 50mm of bump stops on the front? If not is their any problem with just cutting one of the stops off the shaft?

Secondly can someone approximately measure the position of the shock mount on the bottom wishbone from the centre lines between the car mounting brackets? Mine seems to be too close to the car to allow decent movement - with the front shocks as they are i can't get higher than the wishbone being level.

cheers,

Mike.
