Unbalaced wheels due to lock nuts???

When you use locknuts do you have to do anything to correct the wheel balance. My car has developed a wierd vibration at 70mph. It wasn't happening when the car passed SVA but then since then I've added lock nuts....

Going to try whipping them off today and find somewhere fast to test it out and see if it makes any difference.

But if so how the hell are you supposed to balance the wheel? Super heavy nuts for the other studs?!?!?!

Could it be just that since your sva the tyres have worn and require re-balancing?

I would have thought that the nuts are so close to the centre of the wheel that they should not cause much of an imbalance.

Take them off and try with standard nuts. If it makes a different then look into doing something.

The chances are you've lost a weight at some point and they need rebalancing. I've never heard of lock nuts making any difference.

Yes. Good point
I think the track day I did had quite a dramatic impact on the balance, hadn't thought of that Doughnut related wheel imbalance.....

What are the lock nuts made of LEAD!!!

They are close to the point of rotation so shouldn't add to the centarfugal weight of the wheel

More likely that the balancing weights have come off.
