Hi Guys
Got a corsa I want to use for work. theres no back seats but there are seat belts,
question can I put in in for MOT as is or do I need to (1) fit seats (or 2) remove all traces of seat belts.

many thanks

Im not an MOT tester but i know people who have road legal track cars with only the drivers seat and the v5 still says 5 seats.

If there are no seats fitted then they are just belts and are not tested.

I'd imagine if there's no seats there at worst they can fail you on having no seats. Thing is technically doesn't it mean it's a van (like the combo)?

It's probably the same as the spare wheel, don't need one but if you do it has to be legal.

It's not a big job to remove the belts is it? Might be worth your while if you're never going to have seats

From memory it will fail

Old problem if it's not there they cant test it

If it has seat belts then it needs seats bit like if we have a windscreen we need wipers.

Scot's do it better in Kilts.

I would have thought it was the opposite: more like having wipers but no windscreen... since there is no screen it probably doesn't matter either way.

it all depends on the tester they have different ideas about what would pass and fail regardless of the officail guide

Your car would only fail if the seat belts are defective

the guide line is test as presented
if the belts are defective its a fail if they are not there then they dont need to be tested
if you dont get a result ask for a retest at your nearest vosa station the tester will poop himself !!!!!!!!!!!!!
ask me how i know
cheers lesg

Surely if there are no seats the the belts are not "seat belts" but just "belts" as MarkG says.

And according to the guy that does all my MOTs a spare is not tested at all. I always thought as Ninehigh, if there it has to be legal, apparently not.
Curiously though, if an underslung spare the mounting is checked !

mot seatbelts

hi im a tester if you have only the two front seats fitted at time of test then thats all we can test regarless of how many belts the car has fitted the problem is that we have to put down how many passengers the car can have excluding the driver so i would put down 1 which means that you are only insured to carry one person in the vehicle so if you put your seats back in then the insurance have a get out of jail free card
