replacement drive shaft pitted

I just took delivery of a drive shaft from Autoparts Warehouse, it's a reconditioned one for push in diff. However the sealing area at the diff end looks very pitted to me. See the pic. The shaft even came with the label you can see in the pic!

Do you think it will seal or should I call the supplier and complain?

The oil seals in the diff are were fitted by me and have only done 750 miles. If that makes any difference.

Why do they call Port Harcourt "The Garden City"?...... Becauase they can't spell Stramash.

looks like a cheap poo recon shaft, i think they paint over the sealing surface to try to hide problems, seen loads like this but not pitted.

Fit it and see, should have a waranty, if it leaks, which i think it will, then take it back.

You can choose how far the seal is banged in when you install them in the diff. Therefore you could set this up so that it seals on non-pitted region.

If you had got these on the cheap then that is what I would recommend. If you can afford the hassle then I'd get it sorted. As you say they are not right.

thats a bin job send it back. i have had joints with less pitting than that which leak oil

you can tell that who ever supposedly reconditioned it didnt know what they were doing as they have painted parts that shouldnt have paint on them. if you use it the paint will come off cock your oil seal and crud up the diff.

looks to me like it's been sent out to someone else, who's returned it for the same reason after marking it up to highlight the problem

I would not be happy with that at all

Tell us who had the nerve to think that was OK and get it back to them for a refund.

I called them (AutoParts Warehouse), they asked me to e-mail in a pic with a description of the problem, they should then arrange DHL to collect the shaft and send me another one.

edit to say.......
Another driveshaft will be sent to me on Monday next week. Result. Hope this one is better!
