uno bias valve lifespan...alternatives?
Failed MOT today....bias valve weeping
I replaced this since owning the car (as it was weeping and failed that MOT) with a brand new item though wasn't that expensive IIRC, would have
thought more than 2 years service from it would be reasonable?
Just curious if this is unusual that I seem to be wearing them out faster than tyres or brake pads ?
Heavier duty version of a similar thing that will last longer than a couple of years?
I guss I need one? - otherwise I could bypass it (std sierra front and rears - not big drums or anything)
Any suggestions?

I never got mine to work properly.... couldnt get through SVA with it. It was ok for MOT tho.
I'd take it out and look for something else. Depends what rear brakes you have. Do you actually need one?
I would think along the lines of its working in a way it's not really meant to be doing. Possibly putting too much stress on it hence why its
weeping.

Mines been on for 4 years now with no problems and it was second hand from a breakers yard

Not sure if I need it- never run without
Tempted to get a joiner piece and put it in for MOT and see what they say ref front to rear efficiency
Not spotted a cheap Uno valve- I certainly didn't pay as much as the one on eBay is asking!!

Do you actually have a load compensator valve like the one in your ebay link? These are designed to be attached to the suspension via a linkage to
compensate for weight in the back of cars.
If so
this one may end up cheaper.

Just dug out the receipt
Bought 10th Aug 2006 (so was 3 MOT's ago)
Total inc postage £23.96
Guess I'm going to be ringing them tomorrow and ordering another
Not sure but I think the link for the other one is the same - if you carefully read the ad in my link you only get the valve!
I did think the same as you at first and thought it would be the price for the whole kit and caboodle as shown!
(would expect a whole Uno attached ..with a full tank of fuel at that price!)

Rob,that looks like a genuine part there hence the price.
some peeps have done without the valve so just make a bridge and bypass it

Mine started weeping earlier this year,around the plunger area. I decided to make up a bypass/joint,works fine without infact i think its made an
improvement to all round braking performance.

Rang the company I got the last one from and they are out of stock so I didn't have much choice
Took bosses son out for a blat (he's been pestering for months now) found a good roundabout that had one exit blocked due to some roadworks
further on, so it was desserted as everyone else obeyed the diversion signs, so took the opportunity whilst it was quiet...seemed rude not to
The new tyres are quieter than the old Semperits that used to get up quite a loud squeel when provoked...shame as it would have added to the
experience...maybe I wasn't trying hard enough because of the cargo?
judging by the noises the bosses son made and the grin he was wearing I think he kind of fancies one now
(have already pointed out that Sweetpea III is on the market..will let you know)

glad you sorted it mate,as it happens i had to remove mine for the MOT as i spotted the leak while doing pre MOT checks.

My pre MOT check consisted of, looking out the window on the day to see if I needed waterproofs and helmet :-)
Amazed the fail sheet and advisories list wasn't longer TBH
(still not fitted the ball joints I got at Stoneleigh yet, so they were on the advisory list...hopefully the last year they will make an apperance)
Do the advisories get "logged" somewhere?
got my first "DANGEROUS" for perished fuel hoses- on the advisory, so I replaced them as job number 1
(part of new pipework fitted during the Zetec and Squirty install, so end of last Summer ish- bad batch maybe?)
I probably deserve to go up in a ball of flame or crash due to lack of basic maintenance shown in the last year
(and could well have done if mr MOT hadn't stepped in)
Hoping we have a little patch of dry weather next week - got it booked off work to get round to "all those little jobs" that seem to have
slipped by
(sump/rad/balljoints/wiring bodges/wings and stays/bonnet/alternator)
I may of course be on here saying the same next year..but bigger list

My advisory was keep an eye on the play in the steering rack near side, i'll have a go at a repair in the the winter.
