Some people - Brakes

Iv just had my hair cut and i was talking to the guy about the locost.
He asked me what i was going to do to improve the (jag) brakes.
I said nothing as they are the original brakes, designed to stop a 2 ton car so they should be easily good enough to stop a car weighing half that.
He then went on about how the locost is going to be much faster due to being so much lighter, so it will need a brake upgrade and i would be stupid not to spend £££'s on them.
Obviously i just kept quiet and agreed with everything he said as this was the guy with scissors so close to my ears.

Where do these people come from? I think next time i go in, i might just say iv cut a hole in the floor and removed the brakes to save weight and il just stick my feet out of the floor ala flintstones

Are the standard bottom rails up the job of carrying that lump? I know the ones on my locost used to deflect noticeably with the weight of a Pinto on them until triangulated with the upper rail.

chassis looks like thin sticks next to that engine

I think you should use 1.5 mm aluminum for the sides (especially the engine bay) and rivet it on to stiffen the frame up

Should be. The rails are 25x25mm with 2mm wall. Slightly larger than the book rails. They seem to be ok atm.

The barber is right! You should have brembo's all round, then when you go to slow down, you can lock the wheels & skate across the Tarmac into a hedge

It is understandable how people with a tiny bit of knowledge about cars would assume this kind of thing to be fair though, they might bang on about power to weight etc. but never really consider weight to stopping power

The angle of the side rails in the photo does actually give the illusion that the car is bending slightly in the middle (or, at least I hope it's an illusion!)
