How to Identify M/C

Can anyone tell me how to identify my Sierra M/C please? If I decide to use it then I want to know what servicing kit to buy.

Well one way might be to put a pic' up on here.

Or search the pics on the brakesint website and match it that way.

Cheers,
James

I'll do that tonight sir

Reason I asked 'off the cuff' is that I heard there are 2 types and the distance between the outlets tells you which one?

try them all...

the pistons inside also have part numbers on them and will be easy to identify, this e-bay shop has several kits with the part numbers shown.

You can only judge the condition by opening it up anyway and seeing if there’s is a ridge on the inner bore wall. If there is its junk and best replaced as the lip can flip the seal over and you lose the brakes, that happened to my cortina and I ended up going though a fence and into a field.

If you're trying to scare me it's working

Thanks for the input. I'll have a look-see. If it's pooped, I may as well try and get one of them there Fiesta non-servo ones someone reccomended on here.

^^ but surely as the Sierra is a dual circuit system you would only loose one circuit.. You should still have some brakes??? (not ideal!! I replaced my MC with a new one, as you couldn't seem to find a repair kit for my old one)..

hmm trust me even with dual circuit brakes, whats left when a hose or whatever lets go is not anything like half the brakes, opening the doors wide would be as effective

As a test the next time you bleed the brakes, leave air in one of the circuits and try and stop the car, don't go fast mind or on the road & make sure the handbrake works

There are at least six different types of Sierra brake master cylinders. Three Girling and three Bendix. Girling do the cast iron and steel tube cylinders and Bendix do cast aluminium. If you've got the aluminium cylinder, you're gonna really struggle to find a repair kit.

As it happens I don't need to worry what type it is now....

Managed to get the thing stripped down.....after several attempts and many choice words!...the primary piston finally came out, but there is no way that the secondary was going anywhere (and yes, I did remember the holding pin ). Upon further investigation there is more pitting in the bore than on our local roads!

So I guess it's time to buy a new MC. Only thing now is, which one ???

Personally, I'd try a Ford Fiesta Mk1,2 brake master cylinder. Lucas PMC101(74066357) - For vehicles without servo 17.5mm dia.
