wishbones?

I need to get some front and rear wishbones for my newly aquired IRS locost chassis so i can turn it into a rolling chassis..

I am an engineer with a full machine shop etc so unless they are silly cheap I'd rather make my own, so really i'd like some plans to work to or some to copy...

also which ball joints are best to use and is there any particular hubs that are best to go for?

Thanks in advance

Ed

Well, to be honest, it all depends what chassis you have.

If it is a 'book' locost, then the plans are in the book, as well as loads of info on ball joints, suspension etc.

As you mention it is IRS, then it could be anything?

The haynes roadster has decent plans for wishbones, but again, all the geometry is for that particular chassis.

Ball joints - loads of different types, again, dependent upon which hub you chose, wishbone design etc.

As for hubs - Cortina or Sierra.

Which you choose will be determined by
A - availability/cost
B - Suspension design

Sean

Just sort out your uprights, sierra or better cortina at teh front and whatever you knock up fo the rear.

Front maxi balljoint on the bottom, I used series III landrover TRE's for the upper although more usual to use transit.

Rear, make up something to carry the hub, then McGill 1/2" rose joints for me.

There are some pics in my archive.

For the rear width I just assembled the complete axle, set the CV's centrally and made the bones to suit

You need to plan your shocks at the same time, mine collect on the lower bone to keep weight and height down, more usual to pivot off the top rose joint.

Yep I got it off him, he chopped the front wishbones up to make some eninge mounts, as it was easier than going to buy some steel tube..

I believe he kept the rears for his new toy (in the back of the piccy...)

Thats an aries motorsport chassis, i need rear bones as well for mine, i have fronts if you want me to measure them for you.

UNDERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
OVERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
HORSEPOWER is how fast you hit the wall.
TORQUE is how far you take the wall with you.

Fantastic!

thanks for that, what uprights/hubs do i need to source for this? just because this is a Aries motorsport chassis does it mean it follows the Haynes book at all?

Yes I'd love measurements for your front arms, if it's not to much bother...

cheers!
