Where to buy a small strong spring?

Hi,

Hopefully someone will be able to help. I’m needing just two 14mm diameter by 50mm long springs which each have a rating of around 8kg per inch travel. Hmmm

Where on earth would I get that? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

RS do some but no idea what 4N/mm is compared to 8ld/inch
edit, just read again and you say 8kg/inch not 8lb/inch in that case if google right, 8kg/in = 17.6lb/inch = 3.08 N/mm so the RS @£8 for 10 @ 4N/mm = 22lb/in = 10kg/inch??

but you better check if the RS ones do the job and my maths, God i feel as if ive finally done something productive in my lunch time for once.

eithe special order or what about motorbike valve springs? but sxpect they will be stronger than 8ld/inch

RS Stock No. 121-220

Type Compression
Material Music Wire
Free Length 53.5mm
Minimum Work Length 20.1
Load Min. Work L. N 135.33
Rate 4.04N mm
Wire Diameter 1.6mm
Diameter OD 14.1mm

Will,

gsxr1100 valve springs are 40mm long and require 20kg force to compress by 4.4mm

So that is a rate of 5kg/mm (50N/mm). A bit stiffer than is desired.

Nice link to that springs site pity the minimum order is £15.

Matt
