High Clutch Pedal

I've just trial fitted the clutch cable (type 9 5-speed gearbox and standard Sierra pedal box).

The cable fits fine and the run should clear all obstacles with a support bracket. Problem is, when I operate the pedal the self-adjusting mechanism takes up the slack and the pedal returns back to a really high position.

I am thinking that it needs some sort of return stop to prevent it rising up too high. Am I wrong or is there something else I'm missing?

JB

Any pictures of pedals and their position at rest would be useful.

I know Tiger Supercat's often need a pedal stop at the high point to prevent the pedal returning too far which allows the ratchet mechanism of the self adjuster to return too far (meaning starting again when you press the pedal).

Sounds the same issue??

certainly sounds like a similar thing.

Just not sure of the best way to do it though?

The supercat I built for someone had a convenient chassis rail on the driver's side of the pedal. I used a rivnut, bolt and locking nut to do the job.

I'd have used a nylon bolt if i'd have had one!!

There is a stop built into the self adjuster, which in your case doesn't seem to be working. If you have the Haines book on the Sierra there is a drawing showing it. Cheers Ray

Sometimes the outer cable is to short, try packing out the outer cable where it meets the pedal box.
