Looks strong enough to me, I thought that there wasn't enough strength in the steering rack mounts so I did similar.

I took the design from Luego (I think).

I did mine with one diagonal using the theory that if the right hand one was supported, the rack itself would support the left - until I sat in the
car and moved the steering, the left support was moving about 3mm either side due to the play in the clamp rubbers. i welded in a cross diagonal to
brace both sides

Rack mounts
Guys,
i started with a similar design, looks like you are going to be using a MK2 escort rack? After building i had to reposition to get rid of the bump
steer! By the way i have a suitable quick rack for sale see the for sale pages. I found that by lowering the rack and moving it back / forward the
majority of the bump steer could be removed - good luck!

Are the book dimensions very bad for bump steer as thats what I have made them to apart from the brace.

my steering rack sits flat on the lower chassis rails. i dunno why the book says to make them so high, cos mine are parallel to the lower wishbones as
they are. maybe cortina hubs are different to sierra ones?

I did't weld the steering rack mounts up until the engine was in and the suspension set up, I then positioned the rack to the height required, I
agree with JoelP. My supports are virtually off the bottom rail.

am i right in assuming that the rack should sit level with the holes where it attaches to the uprights?
