more drum questions

i have lost the item listed as k on this diagram

which is inserted i believe in to here:

my thoughts are it must be a method of accessing inside to poke something with a screwdriver, (to allow the drum to pass over the shoes? this is described by a different method in my haynes manual but it is describing the 1.6 drum)

any input on, what it does, anywhere other than ford i could get one, or the likelihood of succesfully manufacturing one would be very much appreciated as ever.

it does 2 things.
its a lever stop so the lever does not go back to far.
also with the drum on and the hand brake lever in the off position you should not be able to push it in.
when the lever is in the correct off postion, alows the self adjuster to work correctly.
some naughty people adjust the cable up instead of adjusting the shoes, if you can push the plunger in this is what they have done.

Hmmm, one of mine is missing...

It doesn't seem to have had any ill effects on my car though. I have run like this for three years now

clearly, its not catastrophic if its not there, which is good
just one thing i dont understand, as its a self adjusting mechanism, what other adjustment is there apart from the cable?

The ratchet on the self adjuster diesn't realy work very well (few of them do) and will generally only adjust enough to stop the pedal going right to the floor.
Manually adjust it by clicking it out with a small screwdriver. Do it bit by bit with the drum off and keep trying it. You'll probably go for "just one more" and end up fighting to get the drum off when it's too tight. Don't worry, I've been adjusting them every day for the last 30 years and still do it... sometimes.

I've seen a nut and bolt used as a replacement for the plastic stop a few times.
