extending steering uj
hy i have a sierra column and escort rack whats the best way of extending the bit between them, are there rules and regs to follow or can i cut and
weld.
its a bit comfusing as some people say to sleeve and others say that will make it fail sva/iva

Mine is just cut and sleeved. I think thats how most are done. I've never heard of a car failing test for it.

I've cut and sleeved mine too and as an addition I pinned it as well.

cut and sleve - although do the cut at an angle to increase the welded section.
Just about to do mine again (long story - need it about an inch longer!)
This time I'm doing it with about a 30 degree angle on the outer extension steel which is about 2.5mm thick. Making sure the two cut sections
stick inside the extended section by about 4 or 5 inches, I'll then drill two holes in the extension about an inch from the end of the inside
section and puddle weld that as well.
On the previous joint i actually made it so the shafts inside touched and i put a slot in each with a lump of 3mm steel between them. The idea being
that if the outside section ever gave way - this would give me some steering whilst i got to the side of the road. Very belt and braces. Not doing it
this time due to a) no one else seeming to bother and b) the real reason - i haven't got enough steel between the two sections.

ok cut and sleeve it is ill do some holes and puddle weld also for added strenth thanks for all the help
