Ford column, how long is should the triangular bit stick out as mine just came off in my hands....
Ok, just about to weld in my steering column and i thought i'd check the triangular bit is fully pulled out (i'd read a number of times it
can push up a bit).
So i gently (honest guv) pulled it out and .... it came off in my hands. Now as i pushed it back in it occurred to me that it used to be longer than
it was when i pulled it out so perhaps i'd pushed it in a bit over my build.
So how far should the triangular bit stick out? If you look at the steering column shaft it comes out of you can see there are two crimped sections.
On the top section there is a white bush. I assume the second crimped section is the same, should the triangular bit go into both crimped sections?
just in or all the way? Is there an issue is the triangular section is only in the white bush at the end of the column?

Interesting Topic, i will be watching it closely.
Is it an adjustable coloum, If so then i beleive it will need to stick out a reasonable amount as that is part of the colapsable section of the coloum
case of an accident, The amount it should stick out by is exactly the the same question i want to know so sorry i cant help too much there but may be
worth stating if it is an adjustable coloum or not.
As far as i have worked out so far on mine, the triangle shaft should locate in both white plastic quides else you will end up with excessive movement
in the coloum. I dont think it has to go all the way in just as long as it is in both then that should be fine.
Sorry not a lot of help but it should at least get the ball rolling.
Good luck

its a non adjustable column.
I half (ok 95%) expected the answer to be both plastic bits but it would be nice if it was only one.
