A few questions...
I thought I'd just amalgamate a number of questions into one thread to save wasting space. Help much appreciated.
1) Has anyone dealt with GTS Tuning? Good/Bad/Indifferent? (http://www.ekmpowershop9.com/ekmps/shops/gtstuning/)
2) Has anyone dealt with Rally Design? As above (http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/index.php?cPath=900)
3) Has anyone used these Quaife upgraded steering Rack and Pinions in MK2 Escort Racks?
(http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=900_1799_1804&products_id=13516) Do they offer any advantage other than a quicker ratio over
a normal brand new rack? I.e do they feel any tighter or better?
4) What size wheels willfit over this brake set-up?
(http://www.ekmpowershop9.com/ekmps/shops/gtstuning/wilwood-powerlite-kit-for-cortina-uprights-43-p.asp) Will I need 15's or will 13" be
enough?
5) A while back I saw some Cortina front Stub axles being sold that could be bolted into Aluminium/home designed uprights but cannot remember were.
Does anyone have any links or info?

Id advise a search for GTS, somepeoples opinions of him on here are rather tainted, quite rightly so in some cases.

Do we have to have a technical forum lower itself to this sort of 4Chan level banality?

Whoah - have you performed the search as advised above?
You must be a quick reader to respond so sharpish!!!!
Quality of the answer depends on the qualityof the question
but seriously:
Rallydesign are very good to deal with in my experience and will handle any queries you may have about which bits will fit with other bits.

Not personally but do a search while I get the pop-corn!
2) Has anyone dealt with Rally Design?
Used them several times and always had good service. Avoid multiple small orders though because of thier p+p charges
3) Has anyone used these Quaife upgraded steering Rack and Pinions in MK2 Escort Racks?
No I just bought thier complete quick rack, not a kit to do yourself.
4) What size wheels willfit over this brake set-up? Will I need 15's or will 13" be enough?
I've got the Sierra version of those and 13"Compomotive CXR's fit. Depends on the wheel though. 13" always better if you can
get them on.
5) A while back I saw some Cortina front Stub axles being sold that could be bolted into Aluminium/home designed uprights but cannot remember were.

I have had lots of dealings with GTS
and have just ordered a new kit from him
The quality of his work is some of the best i have seen....
but sometimes his customer service can be poor...
but if you search for mk and most other manufactures this seems to be a theme in the kitcar industry.
some manufactures seem to get slated for it
while it seems acceptable from others
GTS supply Rally Design and some of GTS parts are supplied by Rally Design

Quality excellent or used to be when I bought some bits, although wait time can be long and customer service poor, best do a search for for info about
Darren & GTS would be my recommendation.
2) Has anyone dealt with Rally Design? As above (http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/index.php?cPath=900)
Always been very good products and customer service whenever I've ordered, and a great catalogue for the crapper!
3) Has anyone used these Quaife upgraded steering Rack and Pinions in MK2 Escort Racks?

Not used it, just used the Rally Design one and very pleased with it.

Sorry dunno

Welcome to the madhouse, and don't forget the search feature its ace!
I wouldn't worry about saving forum space by asking multiple q's in one thread as this may not help the next member researching the same
info using the search feature and may not see this page, not sure if page contents are indexed or not. Just my 2 penneth.
Cheers
Rich

Maybe you'd be better off at Pistonheads then.
They can be found Here.

Also the serch function on here is knackered and always has been, to have any hope of finding what you're looking for instead of using spaces
between your search words in the box, use percentage signs (%).

Hi there and welcome, as I am one of the few building a GTS car at present I can give you up to date information.
1) GTS make very good quality kits, however their service to customers can be hit and miss and patience is needed. They are a very small operation (1
man - Darren) and although his heart is in the right place he gets over stretched and delivery time suffers sometimes.
I have dealt with him now for just about 12 months and as long as you keep communicating with him ,albeit sometimes only one way, he does tend to come
through.
However, I would recommend you read about other peoples experiences as they are not all as good as mine, and make up your own mind there are many
offering advice on here who have never actually dealt with him.
I do however think they make one of the best look seven style cars around, but that's my own preference of course.
2) Rally design have supplied me many parts and are without doubt always excellent.
3) Don't Know
4) I have the Cortina Willwood set up on the front and am using 15 inch wheels.
5) MNR sell an alloy upright for Cortina set up link dont know if its the one you've seen but I
have also seen others.
Hope the above is helpful

1) See above for comments - GTS make one of the best kits available, but delivery times can be long, but if you are happy to wait then go for it. I am
pleased I went with the GTS kit.
2) Rally Design are generally very good.
3) Just use the 2.9 turn rack - plenty quick enough for road use and a lot cheaper than the quaife kit. Nicely made too
4) Yes the wilwood front brake kit fits easily under 13" rims. The sierra rear brake kit just sneaks under too, but you need to start with a
drum braked rear end.
5) Randall Motorsport sell the stub axles. Just be wary of the pitfalls (potential early failure) of welded stell or sluminium uprights. They are
safety critical.

I have never used GTS, and never would, as there seems to be customers on here that have had to wait up to a tear to get there ordered bits, just my
pennys worth
Rally desigh, i have used, and are a normal buiseness (or seem to be) quick and easy transaction
I have the 2.9 rack now, but not driven with it yet , due to some other mods in progress
but my reseach on what rack to use, seemed to be dont get the 2.4 rack as at normal driving speeds it will be very very twitchy
the other questions, i can not answer

As above not all suppliers at all! it seems 90% of customers have problems with GTS, some are owed £££'s in parts. A small few have got by
ok.
It seems some companies think its ok to have poor customer service just because they're part of the 'kit car' industry. The sooner
these companies vanish the better the industry will be.
There's a few companies out there who put real effort into their customer service. Buying something like a kit car demands good aftersales
service.
Have a search around and have a good think before you hand over your cash. Most will sound the part while they're chasing your cash, its what
comes after that really matters.

Cheers for the answers, the car will be a fully sperical-bearing equipped race car so the quicker the rack the better. I think due to money
constraints though I may just get the standard MK2 Escort 2.4 turn version.
Those stub axles are exactly what I'm looking for and dont worry... upright design and manufacture is simple enough.
As for the rear brakes and 13" wheels, I'm not sure what I'm doing at the rear yet but it will be a custom job so just wanted to
make sure that the front kit I want fits under 13"s so I can get some ordered.
and sorry should just mention I am building two different cars hence the apparent inconsistensies in my intentions.
