What maximum size discs have people been using with 15's?

I fitted 288mm calibra turbo calipers under 15" GM and compomotive wheels.
However it wll depend on the wheel and caliper designs, I would expect there are slim calipers for 280mm ish brakes that might squeeze under a high
offset 14" wheel with a slim spoke design.

On my old S1 Rallye, I ran 283mm Peugeot 206GTi 180 discs and large Brembos from a 406 V6 Coupe under 15" Compomotive MO's. There was a
bit of room left and my wood, a lot of braking force for a wee 106 weighing 700kg

Cool. Thanks for the info.
Any body fitted a 300mm disc and used Brembo four pots with a 15" wheel?
I am looking into a focus ST170 disc onto the cortina hub with the fait coupe 20v calliper.....

I believe the Fiat Coupe caliper is the same type as the 406 V6 Brembo, and don't know how much more room there will be to get 300mm discs under
the caliper, but depends how the spacing would be on the Cortina hubs.
I can try and dig out the pics of my brake swap later tonight if you like?

Thanks. I get a good idea on how close they are. Good job you did on getting that to work. I have actually been looking at the coupe disc, which fits
the the cortina hub, and tried a 307 15" steel wheel on, with the right off set I think it's "do able"......
Those compomotive wheels offer probabily the best clearance like, I was hoping to get team dynamic protege 1.2's like on my GTfour. They also
offer lots of spoke clearance.
I am away to Hungary tomorrow but when I return I will post some photos of my set up.
Cheers Rob

Hi Rallye Mark,
I have been looking at the big disc conversion again, i am now tempted by the 2wd Cosworth disc, this is 283mm by 24mm wide and has a hight of
55mm.
I know this should fit seeing your photos, question is, what hight were your 206 180 discs? (measurement from the back of the disc to the wheel
mounting face.)
Cheers, Rob

You are probably doing this for a good reason, but a disk that size is going to add a lot of unsprung weight!
For referance, a pair of mk1 mx5 front disks are 184mm dia and 18mm thick and weigh 7.0kg/pair, The rear disks on mine are 200*9 unvented and weigh
5.2kg/pair. The disks you're looking at will probably weigh 10kg+/pair and be quite hard to get your disks and pads hot enough.
They will look a lot better though!
Regards
Hugh

Hi,
Have you seen the engine i am using? Standard power is 220bhp - i am hoping to be running nearer 300bhp in the end. The five cylinder engine is quite
heavy too, hence why i have chosen to keep the Brembos for added Breaking power. Only problem is that the standard cortina/capri disc is too thin and
the 240mm disc is not big enough for this caliper.
I have actually found out that 406 coupe discs maybe another solution, as these have a 66mm centre bore and almost a flat disc. They could bolt to the
cortina hub in the original place?????
These will either be 282.5mm or 305mm in diameter. Will keep you posted on my findings.
Oh, and of course, yes looks are also important!
