what is the size/thread of the brake hoses

Hi, I have tried the search function, but not much joy, maybe using wrong or too many keywords?

Im currently working out the shopping list to make up the brakelines for the back of my build, but need to know what the size and thread is of the brake line into the rear calipers

Im planning on running brainded hoses, but want to use banjo bolts ideally, if not then there are some adaptors, but as I havent a clue what thread it is, I cant even get started.

2 lines from my master, 1 back to each caliper is cheaper, but think I will got with some form of T piece in the system, neater that way, actually thinking about it,I think I will go with 1 line back to one caliper, double banjo, with a line over to the other caliper

anyone see a problem with this? its how we do the front brakes on bikes?

i can see plenty of problems, namely you've not listed a single detail about what master cylinder, or calipers you're using

running braided hoses throughout is not a problems at all, its how i did it

well the master cylinder thread is easy, its a honda bike one and its 5/8th piston.

the calipers are from a sierra, solid discs

was so busy trying to compile an order before going back to the garage that I forgot about details

I use venhill lines as they are well priced and come sleeved in all pretty colours

just measuring and working out the routes, but a lot will depend on if I use the straight fitment, like the standard flexi hose, or if I go with 90 degree banjos to route the hose etc

sierra calipers are M10x1 thread, and i think you can use banjos, but i used 90 degree swivel fittings, its like a male threaded, the threaded part spins round on the tube, which is flared, like a normal pipe. i *think* bajo's work, but my claipers had been painted be the last owner, and the finish wasn't very smooth, so wouldn't have sealed very well.

i'd go for 1 line front to back, T peice (which you can either get in metri or imperial) in metric M10x1, and 2 seperate pipes to the calipers.

2 banjos on the MC and sperate pipes to each caliper is how i did the front of my car, but the way you're talking of doing the back, i wonder if you'd have problems bleeding them?

Tony,

That is what I have. Seems to work.

The Sierra calliper is not designed for a banjo but it can work. You may need to file the area around the bolt to get it nice and flat so as to seal properly. I had to trim down the banjo bolts too, but neither is a big deal.

You could use a 4-way T-piece (if you know what I mean) and include a pressure switch for the brake lights. I didn't, but it is an option that simplifies the wiring.
