where to buy small bit of 2.5mm mild steel sheet
yeah that's what I need, prob is I only need about a shoebox lids area worth, not much really. Has to be 2.5mm due to bearing clearance
issues.
Anyone know a source?
thanks

I've just found a site that sells offcuts of Galvanised steel 250 x 250 x 2.5mm thick. I'm assuming the thinkness of the galvinised coat
can be ignored in the thickness measurement?
cheers

You can't assume as it depends on how much zinc they put on.
I know that on tubes it's often around 25 microns, but I've seen sheet steel which varied from circa 20 microns (per side) all the way up
to 100 microns.
How critical is it? Can you skim it if necessary with a sander?

My Scottish geography is rubbish - how close are you to Glasgow?
If you are within driving range, then Metal Supermarkets has a depot in Govan. LINKY
They'll sell you as much as you want (but they probably don't do stuff through the post...)
