Steering Rack & Track Rods
I posted a question a while back regarding track rods. To reduce the effects of "bumpsteer" my steering rack has been shortend and the track rods
have been extended. I had read that any welding to the track rods would result in an MOT failure. The SVA people in Wales could not come up with a
definitive answer, but having spoken to an MOT tester today, it seems set in stone that any welding to a track rod is VERBOTEN.
Anyone out there know where I could get some track rods to fit my escort steering rack? From memory, they need to be about 9 1/2" long. I presume it
would cost two arms and a leg to have them machined? Alternatively, a shorter steering rack with longer track rods? Any help would be much
appreciated.
Regards, Ian

Hi
Just bought mine for my standard escot rack from a regular car parts place locally, no problem and cheap. Am I missing something here?

Hey Jasper,
As I had the rack shortened, the track rods needed lengthening. As they've been welded they are now an MOT failure. I could opt for a standard rack,
but back comes the bumpsteer!

Doh! Good idea! As far as I know, the restriction applies to welding mods. Cheers!
