A couple of steering part questions.
I have a couple of quick questions about steering parts.
Firstly what car is this from and were can I buy them:
I thought they were RS2000 but they're not, the fit a MK2 Escort steering rack and mate correctly to a Cortina upright steering taper correctly.
Any ideas?
Secondly I also ordered an extension shaft (the one from Rally Design) but its only 400mm long and my column is at least 700mm away from the rack
coupling, neither RD or GTS do a longer extension shaft, does anyone know where I can get longer extension shafts with MK2 Escort splines? I assume
people aren't cutting the extension shaft and then sleeving and welding it to make it longer? Or fitting two in series? Or are they?

Anyone got any advice on the extension shaft question.... what extender pieceare people using to connect a sierra column to a escort Rack in a MK2?

Yes they are, no problem if done correctly
The rod ends look like Sierra.

So are people buying the 400mm extension, cutting it in half, sleeving it and then having it welded?
Is that IVA compliant?

For Sierra column to Escort rack you can cut the top Sierra UJ in half and weld in a section of tube. You need a triangle at the top and a spline
fitting at the bottom.
This was fine for SVA, I don't know if the rules are different for IVA.

there is no issues with extending steering shafts so long as the welding is of good quality. If you have any doubts then take it to a fab shop and get
them to do it for you. Car builder solutions can supply steering shaft extensions and parts to make them.
Remember that production cars also have steering shafts that are welded togeather so nothing new there.
You can't however cut and weld an extention tube to the track rods as that is a fail. Threaded extension pieces can be used or if needing
shorted the new end needs rethreading.

Perfect, at least I know that I haven't wasted any money.
What gauge tube do people generally use to sleeve the shaft? Obviously you need quite a thick gauge tube for welding to a 15mm solid shaft? 10 or 12
gauge? Thicker? Thinner?
And yes I will get someone professional to weld it, I do trust my welding but on a steering column where is only one weld between me and the tyre
barrier I'll pay the price to get it done.

The rod ends are Sierra ---- 1970s Cortina/Escort(non RS) /fFesta/Granada ones only differ in not having the "pointy bit"
