alternative steering rack
what is the best option for an alternative steering rack i don't fancy my chances of finding a mk1 or 2 escort rack in the local scrappers

Why not try a Sierra rack?
Cheap and readily available.

why not use a fiesta/escort mk3,mount it on the bulkhead

Most motor factors can get a Mk2 escort rack in 24 hours, they are normally £20 + £20 surcharge
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation
