3.62 LSD driveshaft question

I've recently rebuilt the driveshafts for my 7" 3.62 lsd (thanks to new ends from Gavin), and tried to install them over the weekend, taking into account the good weather.

The N/S/R short shaft went in fine and bolted up without any major hassle. However, the longer O/S/R shaft was a pain and almost got launched into the nearby road.

The situation is this; I stripped and cleaned the lobro ends and re-greased them all, put new boots on, and they looked lovely. The short shaft had no sloppiness in it, but was flexible enough to allow me to angle the end to bolt onto the stub face. Great, I thought.

The other shaft is an absolute pig, and there's no movement in it whatsoever. I can't even angle the ends to bolt them on, and ended up taking the stub shaft out as I feared I'd started to cross-thread one of the holes. Cue profanities.

I bolted up the half shaft to the driveshaft and tried to gently level some movement out with the aid of a vice, but ended up almost tipping my solid wooden workbench over. Which leads me to conclude the CV joints are kaput.

So, do I risk taking the joints apart again and trying to get them to work, or just buy a new set? If I'm buying a new set, do I just get the pair or replace all four and take the other shaft off again? And who's the best/cheapest supplier of new/recon joints? And can someone confirm which car my diff came out of, as I thought it was a 2WD Cossie, but think it could be an XR4x4? I investigated XL Recon, but they and none of their 3 suppliers have got an in stock in the UK.

The saga continues....

Sounds like you've put it together wrong if there is no play.

There is a sequence, take it apart and try again.

I'm suprised you got the last ball in!

Liek I said, one shaft was a piece of pi55, the other not so much.

Truth be told, I'm just thinking it's easier to buy new joints if I can find a cheap supplier.... oh the woes!
