Haynes Roadster Front End
Hello,
I'm using Ford Sierra hubs all round on my project, Haynes roadster at the front and de dion at the rear, is it possible without screwing up the
geometry at the front to shorten the haynes wishbones top and bottom equally, I'm thinking 2" per side or even 3", ideally 3"
per side as currently I have the 5" steering rack extensions in at the moment and 2" extensions are readily available. The de dion is very
easy to sort so no problems there, most things are only tack welded at the moment so it's fairly easy to do something about it as long as it
doesn't completely ruin the geometry
Currently I would need 7" arches to cover the wheels at the moment and it's all looking a bit over the top the car is a mini by the way
Cheers

in simple turms it would mess it up yes but if you now what it is going to do then it may work out be be more desirable,
static roll cener would remain the same however would be diffrent in roll to the roadster, camber change in bump and droop would most lightly change,
the joints at the outer end and inner end would be going threw a greater range of motion due to the shorter arms for a given bump or droop travel so
you would need to check that you are not going to max out the range of motion on the joints, best bet is to nock up a quick string computer and see,
there is plenty of info on how to do it on the web. basicly its just a 2d working model that alows you to see what is going on, bit crude but
effective if not 100% accurate.
other option is design your own using the same method, that way you can choose the hight of your roll center to get the correct centroid axis on the
car.

Ps wouldnt get to hung up about the roadster Geo its far from perfect

Thanks Tilly,
Me designing my own suspension would be a disaster, that's why I used the Haynes roadster, it may not be great but I'm absolutely certain
it is better than anything I could do. Is there a front end double wishbone setup for what would be the narrow track version available for download
using sierra hubs? I have the ron champion book but that is for cortina hubs and also I heard criticism of the design, bump steer, etc
Cheers

no problem, there isnt one that i am awere of but it might be worth looking at some of the 3 wheelers, i do not now what uprights they use but they do
look a little narrower track
might be worth getting a book on the subject as well, competition car suspension by stanniforth is a good starting point for the basics
