What gearbox

Just been reading a thread about quick shifts and it's made me realise I may not have the type 9 box I thought I did! As far as I know the box came from a sierra donor of 84 vintage and is a 4 speed manual, from what reading I have just done though the type 9 is 5 speed only? So what have I got?

Type E probably

possibly a type 3:

or even a 2!

Just had a similar revelation. Thought it was a type e, looked more closely last night, now thinking its a type 3. Going to buy anew gearbox mount, seems the type 2, type 3, type 9 and type e all have different mounts?!

Is there a sure fire way of knowing what my gearbox is? I.e. based on a marking somewhere on it?
