bike engine - what axle ratio???
newbie questions here so bear with me.
thinking about running gear as i am half way through my chassis (book), if i go for bike power and a live axle, what ratio should i be looking
for??
also what bike engine is best for its cost - ignoring the busa unit- way to expensive!!! pan european engines seem cheap - are they rubbish???

Hi James
I intend to use the st1100 Pan Euro engine in my build. V4 quad cam with twin exhausts Yessss!!!
Probably best to think of it as a highly tuned Pinto than a true BEC engine.
Have a good look in the BEC section for some other engine suggestions.

I agree!
The Pan is a bit different to the usual bike engine. Almost a halfway house between car & bike.
Bit more torquey, sounds deeper & slightly 'baby v8'ish, but only revs to 8/9thou instead of 11/12thou, and is less powerful.
I think they can be tuned up to about 120-130bhp ish, which is almost as much as a basic Fireblade, so it's still quick.
And as mentioned above - 2 exhausts do look cool!
So I'd say go for it.

a zx9 or fireblade is around 500 quid, r1 closer to 800. Axle ratio depends on the intended use of the car. If motorways feature a lot (remember the
shows!) you want a 3.64 diff. I think that zx9 is the worst for the ratios and really needs 3.38 or lower, or maybe splash out and get a 3.21 LSD from
a freelander.
