Trackace vs Trakrite

Anyone have any experience with either of these gauges? Are they accurate and do they show what each individual wheel is doing?

I've got a track ace it works well for what it is. It tells you the angle between a pair of wheels back or front. But it doesn't track the front wheels to the rear wheels like an expensive type would.

Neither device will give a result for an individual wheel, but the same the same goes for much more expensive Dunlop or Sealey optical or laser gauges The drive over Trakrite is very quick and easy to use and accurate you only have to be careful that it is properly assembled before you drive over it.

To set the rear toe set one wheel as near straight ahead as you can using using direct measurement, then measure and set the toe across the axle to parallel with Trakrite by adjusting the other wheel. Then set the toe across the axle to a small amount of toe-in (say 0.25 to 0.4 degrees).


At the front fit the steering wheel so it is centered -- ie equal number of turns of the steering wheel from centre position to full lock in both direction.
By eye and tape measure set the track rod ends so the wheels are as parallel as possible with the track rods set to be of an equal length i.e. same amount of thread exposed each on each track rod. Then set the toe so the front wheels have a very small toe in ie parallel to 0.2 degrees.

You then need to road test to center the steering rack properly by adjusting both track rods equally ie shortening one track rod lengthening the other until the car runs straight ahead with the steering wheel in the center position.

Finally you have to re-check the tracking front and rear with the Trakrite.

The front can be done anywhere
Luckily I have a rotary laser so we did it with that
which was a lot easier & more accurate than string.
