Larger discs with sliding calipers

If a sliding caliper is designed to fit a solid disc, would it be as simple as fitting longer sliding bolts to allow a thicker vented disc to be fitted to it?

The sliding calipers that I know of don't work that way round. At maximum width (for example brand new discs and pads) the caliper is at the base of the slider rather than the end. So adding longer bolts wouldn't allow for thicker discs.

No they arn't made like that

but for a lightweight car most people here would go with the much lighter solid disc anyway (with the only upgrade being some good pads)

the larger vented calipers for the sierra's etc. are still quite easy to get if you really want them
(I've got a rusty spare pair of 260mm disc ones in the garage that are just waiting for a clean & rebuild )

The maximum disc thickness is determined by the claw casting of the caliper and also by the slot in the caliper/pad carrier casting.

You could get away with a slightly thicker disc in the claw if you were willing to machine friction material off new pads, but modifying the caliper carrier is a more involved job.

To get from solid (~10mm thick) to vented (~20mm thick) wouldn't really be feasible

Yep, spotted that after doing some research.
Used to dealing with 4 pots rather than single/sliding calipers nowadays.
It's for a customer actually. Wants to fit vented discs to the rear of his S2000...?
