Steering column and Zetec engine
Anyone got any ideas how to get around the oil filter on the Zetec?
Are you a Mac user or a retard?

Move the oil filter, or use a short one. Ask raceline www.raceline.co.uk as they can supply.

I mounted my engine slightly off the centre line of the chassis and tilted up slightly on the induction side, just enough to use a standard Ford
Mondeo filter (bigger the better?), also gives a bit more room when fitting carbs or throttle boddies. Only needs to be over by about 1"
compared to the gearbox output flange. Or as said smaller or remote filter.

I mounted mine on the centre line and at the right height/incline for the steering shaft to pass right across the face of the oil filter mount. Doh!
Bout 25mm clearance.
Thought about remote filter but not sure ther is even enough room for take off plate if you take in account slight engine movement.
Now in the process of building a two peice steering shaft with centre bearing!
Any one know which donor car I can get some good UJs out of?

Halfrauds oil filter Pt no HOF238 is only 60mm long. I found one in Halfrauds and was charged £0.01 as it was old stock
Fram equivalent is Pt no CA3121.

Was poking around some power steering Sierras in the scrappy recently. They seem to have an extra section with an extra UJ- would the UJs from here be

bedford rascal type vans have a uj in the steering column thats accessable from the inside of the cabin, its about mid shin height if you were sitting
in the driving seat.
1 x Hacksaw and you should be ok. Not sure on the diameter they will take though but from a quick inspection they look ok.

These should all fit and are much shorter than the original (just change it more often)
Halfords HOF 238
Crossland 659 (Dunnell standard fitment)
FRAM PH2874
Coopers 107X
Believe these are all from Renault 4 or 5
JUST CHECK THE FILTER YOU FIT HAS THE SPRING VALVE IN IT - you don't want to trash your engine
I have fitted Crossland one seems loads of the Westy people do to.
